Runaway by Aurora: An Ethereal Musical of Liberation

Runaway: is a magical-spectacular song by Aurora, Norwegian singer-songwriter. "Runaway" is a downtempo folktronica, synth-pop, electronic, and electropop song with influences from Nordic-folk music. "Runaway" became Aurora's most successful single in her native Norway. "Runaway" was originally composed for a school assignment when Aurora was in ninth grade but she preferred to keep her music private at the time she wrote the song. The "Runaway" song debut in the album "All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend", and this album received generally positive reviews, charting in various European countries and earning platinum certification two times in Norway.

A little about Aurora, Aurora has an eclectic musical style, consisting of art pop, Nordic-folk, synth-pop, electropop, electro-folk, dark pop, avant-garde pop, alt-pop, folk-pop, and new-age. Haley Weiss of Interview introduces her as a "poetic author of art-pop" and an "unaffectedly curious artist". In her early years, she drew attention for her childlike appearance, pale skin without makeup and short platinum blonde hair, the same color as her eyebrows,[ in contrast to her deep vocal range and the deep meaning of her songs. Aurora then changed her hair style to a partially shaved style referred to as "Norwegian Viking", and since 2018 has been characterized by a "two-layered" style (long in front and short in back). She identifies as a feminist, and is an advocate of human rights, including racial rights and LGBT rights. She has also expressed a preference for not wearing make-up. She has also showed support for various environmental awareness movements.

Lyrically, the song is about escapism and "realizing you want to get home again." Aurora expanded that "home" for her refers to place that her parents used to be which was something she realized while touring. She said: "It's strange how this song fits my life better now that I could ever imagine when I wrote the song itself. It's about how important it is to have a soft place to fall". She said the lyrics came out of nowhere in the first time she made it and the lyrics became meaningful to her after she grew up. The verses cover various topics like "climbing trees, painting pictures, and dancing in the rain." It gives the listener feels freedom, magical-forest vibes, and strange-unknown place while listening it.

Aurora has been the inspiration for the famous successful singer, Billie Eilish. Billie revealed that her inspiration came after she watched Aurora's Runaway music video, when she was around 12 years old. The stories behind the songs and music videos are a source of inspiration for her, and now she is successes. The Runaway music video had a huge impact on Billie Eilish. If she hadn't watched that video, Billie would never have become the singer she is today.

“I think the world needs more artists who are just willing to do what they want,” Aurora said.
